Scenes Unseen: The Summer of ’78 was published by the New York Times on April 27, 2018. In 1978, a three-month strike at the New York Times left everyone at the paper with nothing to do. Eight photographers from the paper approached the Parks Commissioner and suggested they document what they saw. In late 2017, a conservancy official cleaning out an office came across two cardboard boxes that had been sitting around for decades. Inside were 2,924 color slides, pictures made in parks across New York City’s five boroughs late in the summer of 1978. No one had looked at them for 40 years. Their exhibition inspired this collection of Boulder County, Colorado parks photos in Boulder: The Summer of ’18 that have been featured in three gallery shows.
